Happy New Year 2017!

January 2nd. Time to publish an outdated post and begin anew. On New Year’s I went to bed quite early and woke up refreshed on the first day of 2017. We did 108 sun salutations with 108 yogi’s  above a cafe at 10 a.m. It felt amazing, though today I am so sore. The first day of the new year brought a lovely coffee chat with one of my yoga instructors after the class, then church, followed by a glass of wine at a cozy wine bar before meeting friends/colleagues to celebrate my friend’s birthday.

Today I met a couple other friends for brunch spritzers and mimosas to toast in the new year and a day off of teaching. Then spent the afternoon reading and bawling my eyes out over a Nicholas Sparks novel. Nothing like a good book cry. It’s been a great long weekend of relaxation, reflection, and friend time. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store!

Yesterday, in church, we discussed the International church. How the first church was an international church and throughout the centuries the church has molded to fit one ethnic group, one social class, one country, one language…how the International church is important to recognize…that One Day every church will once again be an international church, every tongue, every nation under one roof. For people abroad, the international church is where your tribe is found…
* 3% of the global population lives in countries of which they were not born.
* By 2050, the US population will be majority ethnic minorities
* By 2050, 28% of the world’s Christians will be in Africa, 23% in South America, and 13% in Asia
The beauty of the international church *in Shanghai* is that it comprises all 3 mission types: near neighbor witness, regular missions, and frontier missions…International could be defined as global citizens.
Note: Acts 10.

and this song…

You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are you Lord

Cause
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are you Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

All the earth will shout your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are you Lord

It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

Pour out our praise to You only
Pour out our praise to You only

As I sip on my red wine, I pen thoughts on a napkin…because it’s more real…my scribbles, my cursive ink bleeding onto the thin paper…where I think the clearest…they play deep house music and I can stun.

New year’s day 2017. I feel good even though I have a lot on my mind. The sermon and worship reminded me that it’s not a matter of if God will fulfill his promises, but when. This gives me hope. Comfort. That the life I’m living has a purpose, even though it seems so scattered and disorganized to the world. He makes His will be known in the chaos, leaving me feel at peace in all the uncertainty that I know.
