西米露之家: Sweetness of love.

August 23rd
One year in Taiwan. Weird day. Coffee scone and vanilla Latte at Island Cafe. Sat and worked on a picture project. Went to the gym. Hung out with Ringo…we always go to this drink place called “Sweetness of Love,” and get purple drinks called: 芋香西米露. So yummy!!! We walked around Hsinchu City a bit then decided to go to a rooftop cafe. Beautiful day. No sweat. Calm. Warm. Less humidity. Zenned out blue night. Neon lights. Glowing city below. Always laughing. Nostalgia is settling in. I can feel it.

Oh so many missings right now… friends, routine, yoga…it’s hard to describe…hard to explain… I hold another country, Taiwan, in my heart. Thank you for the memories, the experience, the friendships, and another year of life abroad.

September 13th

Wow. I don’t even know where the time has gone. The last week in Taiwan was a whirlwind and I’ve been home a week now. So let’s recap. After flying from Shanghai (a blog post will be coming once I have pictures ready) to Seoul, laying over for about 2 hours since we sat in the plane for an hour before departing, I was ready to get stateside. Landed in Seattle and breezed through these new fangled self-passport check-ins at immigration. Waited way to long for my bag, but didn’t have any problems at customs…then I missed my connecting flight. Hello 8 more hours in the airport. But let’s be real. I was a wreck. I lost it. Completely lost it. I tried so hard to contain the tears, but they would.not.stop. There just comes a point of deliriousness and exhaustion and anything goes. Including yoga in the waiting room and drinking a chai tea while watching the Seattle sunset. Seriously… anything to keep from crying and my mind off the 11pm take off and overnight to Dallas and another 3 hour layover and 2 hour flight. It was the longest September 3rd ever…I basically repeated that day twice and then some and had been traveling for countless hours by that point. All I wanted was a hot shower and a bed. I was incredibly thankful that Allison came to pick me up at the airport (it’s been our tradition for so long and it meant the world) and took me to Grandma and Grandpa’s. The whole weekend was a blur…was able to see dear friends- (Mandy, Liz, Lori- fabulous to see you!) and hang out…catch up…got to meet my cousin’s baby, Carter; and 3/4 the siblings were reunited- Timmie, we missed you.

Overwhelmingly wonderful and weird to be HOME. I will admit sometimes I feel out of place, but I must face the changes in front of me and just accept the circumstances… I love these people and they still love me and that’s all that matters. The only thing constant is…Change.

You’re probably wondering, what does she do all day now? Well. Let me tell ya…though it may sound picture perfect: a day of coffee, reading (GONE GIRL- O.M.G. you must read this), golfing with dad, breathing in cool fall air, and drinking wine (or a coors light with a lime) in the evening with the ‘rents…I actually have been accomplishing quite a bit…trying to establish a routine, working out- 5:30 spin class and light yoga (I miss my TWN yoga like crazy no doubt!), recovering from jet lag, not acting like a crazy person, cleaning for Mom, laundry, unpacking, organizing, and preparing for my next thing. Nebraska IS truly the best non-beach vacation. Surrounded by family and friends and soaking up everything “homey” before I leave again is absolutely amazing. I know I’m about to embark on another adventure off to someplace completely different and having a taste of home after being gone a year…no words can describe. Wide Open Spaces, Blue Skies, Green Grass, Fall Air, Love, and so many Hugs…

This weekend. Abby and Jake are both home. It’s wonderful just to chill. Abby and I watched Jen Hatmaker’s My Big Family Renovation and made a few healthy goodies. We made 2-minute Apple Pie Mug Cakes for breakfast. Then for our afternoon snack we made vegan Pumpkin Lattes with homemade almond milk (100 times better than Starbucks!!!) and vegan puppy chow. So delicious. However…I may or may not have had one of my mother’s chocolate chip cookies, a bit of scotchoroo, and a piece of pizza as well…Everything evens out, right?

Ok, think I’m all caught up. More Nebraska news to come in the upcoming couple of weeks!
